Bio

Charlotte Vonk is a Dutch visual artist born on May 1, 1957, in Duiven, the Netherlands.

She studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem from 1976 to 1982. After moving to Amsterdam, Vonk initially worked as an illustrator, creating illustrations for magazines such as Viva and Opzij, as well as contributing to children’s books and the television show Sesamstraat.

In her artistic practice, Vonk focuses on abstract compositions using gouache and acrylic paint on canvas. Her work is characterized by bold, non-figurative designs composed of flat planes and lines, often featuring bright colors. She employs techniques like rolling and stamping the paint onto the canvas and incorporates paper stencils to create forms. Her fascination with graphic techniques is evident in her use of stencils, which she also applies in her collage work.

Vonk expanded her artistic endeavors to include ceramics and wooden sculptures. In recent years, she relocated to Acquoy in the Betuwe region, where she now has a large studio that allows her to further develop her artistic practice.

Van 1976 tot 1982 studeerde ze beeldende vorming aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Arnhem. Nadat ze naar Amsterdam was verhuisd, werkte Vonk aanvankelijk als illustrator, waarbij ze illustraties maakte voor tijdschriften als Viva en Opzij, maar ook bijdragen leverde aan kinderboeken en de televisieshow Sesamstraat.

In haar artistieke praktijk richt Vonk zich op abstracte composities met gouache en acrylverf op canvas. Haar werk wordt gekenmerkt door gedurfde, non-figuratieve ontwerpen bestaande uit platte vlakken en lijnen, vaak met felle kleuren. Ze gebruikt technieken zoals het rollen en stempelen van de verf op het canvas en gebruikt papieren stencils om vormen te creëren. Haar fascinatie voor grafische technieken blijkt uit haar gebruik van stencils, die ze ook toepast in haar collagewerk.

Vonk breidde haar artistieke inspanningen uit met keramiek en houten sculpturen. De afgelopen jaren verhuisde ze naar Acquoy in de Betuwe, waar ze nu een groot atelier heeft waar ze haar artistieke praktijk verder kan ontwikkelen.
